Hi new to the forum, my Disco 4 2010 has failed it's mot on - suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn front inner on both sides + Brake pipe excessively corroded rear both sides. I have been quoted £660 and £350 + vat , so £1212 .
( including 4 wheel alignment)

This is at a independent small Landrover specialist.
Does this sound like a reasonable price ?

Regards Mark

Welcome to lz.

Copy front lower arms are 150 a pair, genuine are over 200 each, often need cutting out.
Rear brake pipes can be an arse to do.
So whilst not cheap, certainly not outrageous.

I'd agree, neither job is fun, and it could be a lot more costly to repair than that. Presumably they'll be replacing the lower arms, rather than pressing bushes into old rusty arms?

It's a £40k plus car when new, so has maintenance and repair costs of a £40k car.

My cars first service (2 year) is approaching fast. Car has done ~9000 miles in its 2 years life. Any guidance on what to expect from LR dealer service would be appreciated .. especially the price. I live in a rather costly part of the country (just N of London), so may be willing to travel and have a day out if substantially cheaper elsewhere. Waiting for quote from dealer.

Hi

What model / year discovery and engine do u have please , should then be able to find a service sheet

Alas with JLR dealers ur pay through the nose so good to find a decent independent where u are, however if u have a warrenty they may specify a dealer is used

Hope that helps , plus u might want to sit down when u get a dealer quote

Too right sadly. If bought from new how long is the warranty? It should be three years, in which case you really won't have a lot of choice.

But the first service should involve very little so might not be horrendously expensive, just very bloody expensive!
Best of luck!

Hi mate

Indeed with regards to the warrenty

Know a few years ago I got a basic service quote for my D3 and that was just under £900 , so with a newer one and prices increasing I wouldn’t be surprised if it was over 1k

If I remember rightly my local dealer charge £160 plus vat to just plug a scanner in and then on top £180 per hour for labour plus parts and vat , so To think with basic diagnostics and 1 x hour labour and vat comes in around £410 , excluding any parts , for another £60 can buy a new gap iid that will do virtually the same thing as a dealer on a D3/4

Assume it’s different for the 2016+ models where the dealer specialist software is req for certain updates , module replacement , plus JLR now updating keyless relay software for 2016+ to prevent theft

for the extra service from JLR of them being very unhelpful and condescending u get that FOC, lol, well that’s from the 5-6 dealers I’ve dealt with in the past

Your profit shows the US. Should it show the UK?
If the vehicle is under warranty, then the only choice is to take it to an LR dealer.

Trouble with this thread is we have got two punters on asking the same or a similar question. @rogerwhemr said, "somewhere north of London" so unless he means a London in the US I think we have to assume he means UK although yes, his profile does say US. Maybe that was a typo or he's there on holibobs or working!!
