I want to remove the starter dog and front pulley on my 2A so I can replace the front crank seal and mud shield. I bought a 41mm socket as I'd seen someone use on on a S3 but it's too small, I need a 43mm - and these look to be expensive.

Any proven methods to do this without a 43mm socket?

My biggest adjustable won't open that wide. It might be 1 11/16", I measured it about 42mm so figured 43mm would be safe. Have you done it before with a big adjustable? How did you brace the crank from turning?

I left mine in gear. I borrowed a suitable socket and bar from the truck garage at the end of our road for the princely sum of four cans of Guinness.
He had it back in two hours.

I think that is the right approach, most agricultural and truck places will have the right sizes. If you do use stilsons put some sheet metal round the nut to stop it getting chewed up.
