Can anyone tell me if I can get the low resonating v8 burble if I remove rear silencer, and replace with:

a: Straight pipe replacement (where would I source this)
b: Cherry Bomb Rear silencer Glasspack.

Only want the noise after burying the loud pedal not all the time.

Already tried the centre box replacement and it was too loud and made the car sound worse:mad:

Just want the V8 Muscle style rumble.

You need to ditch the rear silencer altogether and fit a nice big glasspack muffler in the centre.

NB: Muffler.

A silencer has baffles and ****, a muffler is straight through but the expansion, particularly with glasspacking quietens it down.

Mine has a 19" long 5" round glasspack in the centre, but i run headers and a 2.5" system.

sounds, quite frankly, superb. lots of rumble, and barks proper when it opens up.

you may have to get one made if im honest, or basically search for and buy a performance muffler of decent size.

**** the rest off, as straight through as possible.

cheers, hth :)

shame you arent closer to me, camera phone mics really dont manage to get the bass captured properly...

Middle silencer is brand new was fitted in July for MOT - was just wanting rid of rear box

Ok well take the brand new middle silencer which was fitted in July for MOT off, pop it under your bed, fit a large-ish glasspack muffler in it's place, chop the rear box and throw it in the river and weld on a tailpipe to suit, then you will get the sound you are looking for.

No point asking for advice then receiving it from the guy who tried every budget combination under the sun and after that invested £450 in a custom exhaust to finally achieve the required performance, fit and sound and telling him that the centre box is brand new...!

Oh and if you still have cats fitted you are quite frankly ****ing into the wind anyway I'm afraid :(

Ok mate well in which case im afraid youre never going to get much rumble.

Whatever you want to do is up to you but the original silencers have to go!

I don't know if the 3.9 has similar characteristics to the 3.5 (no cats of course) but when the rear box fell off I fitted a length of pipe as a temporary measure & it did increase the 'burble' but with only a very slight increase in 'roar' if you put your foot down. I've kept the pipe for the next time the (badly supported) box falls off, which after 4 years it's about due!

I seem to remember my mate doing it with a small 30 degree kink and a bit of striahgt pipe.
Shoved it together and hey presto!

Thats about it, without the bend the pipe is in contact with the bottom lip of the bumper & reverberates.

You can buy 30, 45 and 60 degree kinks for a few quid.

What about flexi exhaust pipe? Anyone had experience with that?
