Got a few questions for you chaps, Got my 200 tdi out of fender, up on a stand ready to work on. My problem is the rear cam bearing has come out of housing, so i intend to remove the camshaft to fit a new one.

So to do this i have to remove the head and the timing case, I have all the tools for the timing case, my questions are as follows:

1. To remove the head do i have to remove the heater plugs and injectors as the landrover manual says they need to be taken out to aviod damage.

2. While i have the engine out i am putting in a new clutch and timing belt, are there any other jobs that are worth doing while the engine is out.

The engine has done 107,000 miles and the head has been recently fitted,

Yes take the injectors and glow plugs out ( only takes a small knock to kill the nozzel of an injector ) .
Do you know if you have a HD clutch fork in there already ?? if not either make it HD yourself with some flat bar and a welder ( checking that the release bearing pins are not loose first ) , or buy one already HD'd .
Check rear crank main seal for leaks any sign then replace with OEM only not the rubber ****part ones ,
Fit new crank and cam seals even if they look OK .

Was the valves lapped in when the head was off before ? .
one other thing is keep the cam rollers and followers in order they came from .

Anyone else add to the list ?? , tired cant think straight :) .
 
Not sure if the valves were lapped, as i did not fit the new head, it was on when i bought the vehicle, and also i have got a HD clutch arm to fit along with my new clutch:).

I am new to this engine lark, just following the manual and getting as much help from the net as possible, how will i be able to tell if the valves need lapping. The engine ran very well prior to being removed from the vehicle.
 
The only way to tell about the valves is take em out and check the mating face of the valve to the head pitted lightly and shiny needs doing , but as you have them out it would be silly not to grind them back when its all apart .
Have you got the crank pulley off yet as its sat on the bench ....... a case of good luck if you havent !!!!! .

Manwell should say this , when you re fit the belt leave the centre nut alone on the IP slaken the 3 10mm's only , but we'll come to that bit later :) .

Just take your time and if your not sure about something or you dont know if a part is worn etc post piccys and ask .
What manwell you using btw ?? if its haynes I hope you disconected the battery first lol but look here pdf Land Rover Manuals | Landroverweb.com and DL the whole thing under 90/110 .
 
No i havent got the crank pulley off yet waiting for a 30mm socket for impact wrench to get dog nut off, if that comes off i have got a proper puller for the crank pulley.

The manual i have is the big fat white landrover one. Also been looking at trailer fittters videos about changing timing belts on youtube, these videos are very usefull and describe how to carry out a job better a lot better than the manual.

i found it easy to undo crank pulley nut after heating it with map gas, and the pulley slid off without using the puller
