Suddenly today the remote central locking on my 1999 Freelander only works with the remote really close to the dashboard (almost on the windscreen). Both key fobs do this, even with new CR2032 button cells. The Bosch 12V battery in the car is good too, and starts the engine crisply. Remote locking/unlocking all works as it should, but has very little range.

I'm wondering if the 433Mhz receiver on top of the instrument binnacle (part no. YWY100460) is weak? And if I replace it with a new/used one, will it just work with the original key fobs or will something need reprogramming?

What do you think? Any help/advice/wisdom much appreciated...

The remote codes are presumably coded into the 'CCU' - if this part is just the IR pickup and not the CCU, then presumably it can be replaced without any coding needed.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking too, so I might just buy a used IR receiver for a tenner and give it a go....
