Hi all, I'm about to commit the henous crime of buying another Land Rover.....maybe.
I currently have 2 Disco tdi 300's and a Disco Td5, none of which currently go anywhere: Td5 suspension problem, 300(a) used as spares, 300(b) yet another blown heas gasket- can't beleive it! Also had a couple of Freelander Td4s in the past - great in the snow

Maybe there IS something in the constant cry of "Buy Japanese FFKs sake" that I hear from anyone at a garage.... And even from the owner of the Land Rover here in France who is a Landy fanatic

However, I like the Freelander 2. I'm looking at years 2007-2009 models in the UK, FSH, no sun roofs and maybe basic model so less eleckronickery to go wrong.

Any advice or 'sob stories', tales of woe or Specific things ti be aware of... Before I go and buy a Rav...

They seem to be the most reliable Landy out there.

I have defender td5 and about a month ago bought a fl2 2010 basic td4 with only 13000 mls on it, I love to drive it, nice high driving position easy to drive comfortable. Took it on a 220 ml trip to Scotland last week an managed to get 40mpg there and back diving carefully. Way too early to comment on reliability yet but from what I hear they are pretty good, you read about some rear diff problems which obviously happen but of course all the people who don't have diff problems don't write so need to consider the full picture.
All in all early days but I like mine.

I'm glad I bought a Freelander, not Japanese, 5 years of basically trouble free motoring.

The neighbour's Land Cruiser has recently been laid up with air suspension trouble - so its not a Land Rover problem - its what you should expect if you want bells, whistles, gizmos, bling blah blah.

I made the mistake of buying Japanese about 8 years ago - bought a good reliable AA inspected Mazda Proceed - lasted 3 weeks before the engine disintegrated in the middle of nowhere - rescued by local farmer and car scrapped! Returned to the ****ty D1 V8 for another few years - as ****ty as it was, it never failed to get us home, although it did need a lot of 'love' sometimes before it would get us home!

The Freelander 2 is based on the Ford EUCD platform. Thus it shares many components with the Ford Mondeo, Galaxy and S Max. Lots of other vehicles use the same platform. Volvo V70 and XC 70 spring to mind.
LR use it for the Freelander 2, RR Evoke and the new Discovery Sport. Reliability shouldn't really be to much of an issue, except for a couple of key areas.
