I've had a 1986 V8 90 for over 20 years and like most old Land Rovers, it's changed a bit since it left the factory. It was originally a CSW and the main changes are:

Hard top removed and replaced with a bespoke soft top.
Safety devices roll bar
Rear step bumper - LR genuine part
Pivlock swinging spare wheel carrier
Front A Bar and fog lights - LR genuine parts
Galvanised chassis - Richards
Polybush bushes
Front centre seat replaced with cubby box - LR genuine
Rear seats removed
Discovery rear axle casing fitted (for the disc brakes)
Kenlowe electric fans
Janspeed SS exhaust

It was my daily transport to work for many years and is now having a bit of a spruce up now that I've retired. Mrs T and I have also just bought an apartment on the Costa del Sol, which we intend to use to run away from the Scottish winters. We'd love to have the Landy in Spain, as it would be ideal (and it deserves some time in the sun as much as we do!). The problem is that all the companies we have contacted about registering vehicles in Spain shy away because of "all the modifications". We will be applying for temporary residency as we will be there over 3 consecutive months but (at least for now) will keep under the 183 day limit in any one year. We would leave the car in Spain (garaged), so would need it to be on Spanish plates so we can get an annual ITV.

Any advice gratefully received! There seems to be a lot on the internet, but much seems to be conflicting or vague (or maybe that's just me being dim).

Fraught with problems.

Hire a recommended agent to do it.

You will need to have a valid COC (certificate of conformation) from Land Rover.

It won't be easy but it should be doable with the right agent.

What you have the actual paperwork looks doable, what you need I am not sure.
The big thing that pops up for me is your new chassis, I am guessing it’s not stamped and the number doesn’t match with your V5. Most European countries really need matching numbers.

You're right, it's not stamped. Sounds like that might be the blocker. Thanks for the advice though.

Yep @Shippers I did, and what you said was more in-depth, but we both know no matching numbers then pretty much no go:( sadly

Think Best bet would be give the laddie a holiday in Scotland and buy a cheap Spanish runabout for when you are in the sun. Probably a lot less stress involved to:)

Agree but to be honest if Spain is like Portugal the fact it is no longer a CSW is the bigger problem...the reason I mentioned the V5 is for example an engine change from petrol to diesel may be correct on V5 but won't match C.O.C these are the things you find out to late sometimes...

Many thanks to you both - sounds like it will be battle even it's ultimately successful, which is not what we want to spend our time doing when we're in Spain. Plan B is to leave the Landy in the UK, as suggested, and get our (standard!) Suzuki Jimny out to the sunshine. That said, Scotland has been glorious for the past couple of weeks - bring on the global warming ;)

Will be easier to do Suzuki but remember if RHD you'll need to change all applicable lights front and back to LHD...if it was me I would buy in Spain a LHD even when re-reg you get problems buying parts due to the ordering system the Iberian Peninsula use...
Oh and the mozzles are out here...lol..

Plan B sounds a whole lot less stressful, and you would probably get a agent to take on a standard vehicle so you could get it all in place before leaving.

Good luck and enjoy your retirement :)
