Hello, I've noticed that the red led stays lit when the gear shift is in park with ignition off and key removed. Is this supposed to be that way?

Obviously you have not read the very first post in this section. A lot of us have balls but none of us have one made from crystal. If your car happens to be a P38 the lamp will go out when the BECM goes to sleep.

There all the rage u know, lol

Bit like asking why the old fridge magnets will not stick to the new fridge, without telling anyone that the new fridge door is aluminium. :D:D

I have the Range Rover L322, 4.4l v8 petrol 2004 model. Shut off ignition, remove key and the red light on parking gear selector stays lit. Is this normal?

Don't know about the L322 but if it's anything like the P38 it goes out when BECM or BCM on yours goes to sleep.

Or, like the P38 it develops a fault and never goes to sleep and the battery goes flat and you get stranded in the ar$e-end of nowhere, or you return from your holiday to find the car DEAD at the airport car-park (always fun).

Ah, there it is then ;) :p

On the P38’s there is a little glow by gearstick that gives away if the BECM is asleep or not. The red LED on dashboard is to do with immobiliser. Your truck is like a revised p38 so won’t be too dissimilar.

My l322 does exactly the same when you first lock it but it goes off within five minutes when it goes to sleep mode.

Mine has been staying on way passed 20 minutes which could indicate a battery drain either from audio or heater. The 2004 had a dodgy wiring fault behind the heater control panel that was resolved by a wiring loom upgrade. I am currently in the throws of finding a suspect drain. If I leave mine unlocked for 10 minutes it will drain the battery. I think 20 minutes is ok for it to go off as long as it stays off and you don’t have battery drain issues.

I have just fitted a Bosch S5 020 as mine was fecked, i’ll see if my battery drain will continue ..
