The red light on the "dash" won't go out and I can remember what it means. If it's on does it mean that the alternator's not working cos the systems not charging?

As its a positive earth what the cheapest place to get one, anyone know?

shirley if its positive earth it will have a dynamo? in which case you might want to think about converting to an alternator

Alternator conversion would be more practical but, if you would prefer a replacement dynamo try the Land Rover orphanage or the Land Rover Dogs Home on ebay.

Thanks for correcting me a dynamo is what I want. It's been so long since I tinkered with the Landy and 10 years of company cars has made me so forgetful.
