right here goes (my spellings not very good) ....

i have got a 1998 2.0L Diesel Freelander and the red engine light is on and the car is running slow ... flatout just hits 50mph or less .... i have orderd a new maf at a price! ... but i was also told before i spend any money if i disconnect the sensor on the maf and the red light doesnt go off then it can not be the maf ... is this true as i dont fancy spend aload of money on a part that i dont need

thanks all

I had a very similar problem . I changed a few sensors , but it was a knackered MAP sensor, contaminated with oil . http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/l-series-engine-management-lght-low-revs-turbo-176868.html

It looks like this

They're quite expensive , but I got mine for free from a breakers yard . It was broken but fixable ,using a bit of pipe and some body filler .

You should first make sure it is actually the map sensor thats broken . My thread I posted with my first reply is very long but I think I packed in all of what I did to find the cause of my problems .

edit : This is the cheapest I found at the time http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/Land Rover_Freelander_Map Sensors.aspx . I know nothing about them .
