Can anyone recommend a supplier for a reconditioned/engineered 244DT Puma engine? Now have a very noisy Defender with the distintive sound of pistons slapping. Also have clouds of blue smoke in the mornings whilst she is warming up. My local Land Rover garage here in France "Only Land" has recommended I buy a reconditioned engine in the UK as they are like Hens' teeth here and very pricey. I had the injectors changed six months ago but no change. I am running her every day and often towing 3.5t in a 4 wheeled Ifor Williams trailer but I just having the feeling that one day she will just give up on me. She has only covered 80,000 kms but when i changed the ownership docs found that she had been previosly owned by a rental company in Spain. This might explain the abuse to the engine.
