Hi guys

I'm taking my Disco 2 TD5 on a group tour to the Pyranees fairly soon. I'm the second owner and the mileage is about 105k.

I'm after some guidance as to what spares I should take with me.

Also, the car is going in for a full service and health check next week (independent LR specialist). Anything specific I should make sure they check?

Your full service and health check should be enough, replace any part that found iffy before you start, your not going to darkest Africa :)
Not a recommendation buy a legal requirement is spare bulbs.

A decent lamp or torch for changing tyres/fiddling with stuff.

Clean wipes for when the steering wheel gets sticky from eating junk food.

Mobile phone with internet for Landyzone access
 
Depends on how deep in the middle of nowhere you want to explore... i always have a spare fuel pump(well shockproof packed) in the boot compartment and a crank sensor in the glovebox... these are 2 vital bits which you can't make sure they wont fail on you as you can make sure about pulleys, gaskets, drive-belt, etc. ...and if one of these fail you're f**ked... all other parts involved in driveability have backup strategy or you can improvise...

it's good to have a puncture repair kit and a good compressor off course...if you still have airsprings this is a lifesaver in case of SLS system failure Air Suspension emergency Air Valves 4mm OD Discovery 2 | eBay ...you can source these king of valves a lot cheaper if you search enough

Thanks.

Any recommendations for a suitable compressor? I was looking at getting one for tyre inflation and maybe the odd air tool but I have no experience with pneumatics.

Also wondering whether it's worth renewing the air springs before the trip as these are consumable items anyway?

I have a T-max and i'm pleased with it...if the bags and the height sensors are older than 5-6 years it wont hurt to replace them...or at least have them near at hand...that's why i said about puncture repair kit and compressor cos if a bag is leaking you can fill it with some foam and if a sensor fails or some other problem with the SLS u put those valves, pump it to appropriate height with the compressor and up you go.... As long as the bags are keeping the air the SLS can be tricked in many ways as to be usable
 
I think I'd take a 300TDI as a minimum.... Joking aside,dont forget to take a booze breath testing kit with you,we had to buy one in Italy to put in our Swiss hire car to go back into Frogland.(I speak no Italian - at all,but the lady in the chemists had a good laugh with us and very soon worked out what we were after)

There still is a supply problem.

Funny thing is, the chairman of the committee that advised Mr Sarkozy's govt. to make this a legal requirement, is the boss of the biggest of the two manufacturers of these disposable breath testers and they still can't make them fast enough - bet he can't believe his luck!!!!
 
Don't forget the toolkit standard of Duck Tape and Cable Ties. Surprising what can be "fixed" temporarily with those...

And your also fubared if your pump bolt aint been done and decides to drop out
 
Check where all the dealers and landy fixers are located on your route.

Always less stress when you know where to go.
