Can anyone recommend a good Land Rover dealer in the Oxon, Bucks Berks areas I have just had an absolute nightmare with Slough. Does anyone really rate Watford, Aylesbury, Ascot, Oxford or Reading?

Sough just charged me about £550 to diagnose a blocked turbo oil drain pipe, despite the fact it’s a very well-known problem with its own LR technical bulletin and with a replacement part so different if requires an extra hole to be drilled in the sump in order to fit it.

They also suggested I need a new rear wiper motor as it was seized, despite the fact it works fine, and give me a car back ins such a state it that looked like it have been living in sea and had a battery left totally discharged and wouldn't hold sufficient charge to even get me home without the car nearly stalling each time I slowed down. The service was beyond dreadful and into downright laughable!

I do need to get the turbo pipe done, and my local indi reckons it’s probably best done as a main dealer job.

I had to pay the guys at Slough to get my car back, but I'm loathe to let them just get away with it, as they’ll just keep doing it to other people. Is small claims court the best place, or is there a step before this such as trading standards?

I have written to them a number of times but they say they I authorised the work on the diagnosis, (an oil change which shouldn't have been needed) wand have failed to comment on the report suggesting the car needed a new wiper motor, amongst other things. They declined any responsibility for the battery, claiming they would have charged me £90 if I had wanted them to keep it charged. The battery was strong before it got to them!

There is a new dealer in Greenham, Newbury. I haven't used them but being new they may still be trying to impress customers.

Can't recommend a dealer, especially for a P38 ( can you add model/ year/etc next time, save us having to go search what you're driving ;) ) Stealers don't want the old cars. Last time I needed to take mine to stealers about my keys, I had to go back 4 days later , when their "guy who knows about those old cars" would be in!
However, can recommend you look for a decent specialist indy. Try a post in regional LZers, or try a search online and fingers crossed. If no-one knows an indy in your area, I'd suggest after looking online, go take a physical look at a couple of specialists in your area. I had a nightmare initially finding someone. When I finally found Gibsons, it was like LR central , everything from Series 1 to late plate L322 in the work area.

P.s +1 for Trading Standards / Citizens Advice, for other issues.

What model is it? Why do you need a main dealer? Is it still under warranty?

There's a 4x4 guy who is supposed to be pretty decent in Stokenchurch and some guys in Chesham who are decent. I'll try to remember the names but they're not main dealers. Stoke Mandeville Autocentre up by the hospital are decent although they don't specialise in Land Rovers..

I have had no issues Guy Salmon Ascot - but that was about 3 years ago....not sure on if they have maintained standards.

Good luck with TS, under funded and resourced I suspect.

However, I’d suggest a formal letter of complaint quoting The Consumer Rights Act followed by small claims action to recover costs paid unnecessarily. It’s the advice TS would give I suspect.

If you want help with letters then it would be Consumer Advice Service (CAB)

There is a main stealer in Hemel Hempstead but its nearer Bovingdon than Hemel. Don't know what they are like though.

Also have a look at Kings Langley Land Rover. They are indies. Also don't know what they are like.
