Hi all.
My rear work light has fallen off so I need to refix.
All I have is a hole not accessible from behind.
Any ideas on how to fix or should I use the usual DIY cavity screws/bolts from B&Q etc. I don't fancy taking off the interior lining and making a mess of that.

Get a bit of ally, mount the lamp to that and rthen pop rivet it over the hole.

Remember to put some sealant behind the plate before fastening it on.

Simples!

Could insert a rivnut depending how big the hole is.

Flexible Blanking Plug, PVC Blanking Plug - Component Force - UK

Buy one of those to fit the whole.

Then replace work lamp but attach it using a gutter mount. (ie. use a cb antenna mount).

How is the hole not accessible from behind? You could simply just move the roof lining and refit a work lamp with large repair washers

There's only a few fir tree fasteners holding the trim panel over the back door, lever them out and the panel can be removed. Now you have the access that you need... fit a plate or very large washer inside and one outside. Pass a large bolt through and tighten it to flatten out the ally. Now remove the bolt, apply sealant to each side of the hole and bolt the plates/washers and the lamp bracket making sure to use a nylock nut so that it does not shake loose again. Oh and while you're at it fit a grommet to the wiring to stop water ingress and prevent the wire from chafing and shorting out. You will probably need new fir tree fasteners, but before fitting them soak them in a weak solution of fairy liquid and water.
This is how it's done at Land Rover.... on the side of the Defender assembly line you will see tubs of fir trees soaking ready for fitting.

Thanks all for replies.
Think I'll go with Oldseadog and his ali plate and rivets.

Hole is too big for Rivnuts and as I mentioned I'll probably end up cacking the roof liner if I remove.

Honestly mate, try and use repair washers first if you can. It takes a lot to ruin the liner, it's pretty tough and will stand up to some pulling and shoving. An ally plate riveted on would be a last resort for me as not only would it look messy but you'd also need to paint it to match.

That hole should be accessable...

Get a couple of large washers one each side and it will go back in the same hole.

To get the fir tree fasteners out use an old fork, spread the centre two prongs a little then push the fork under the fastener and lever it out. You could get a special tool which does the same, but an old fork is cheaper!!
