Both rear wheels had play in them when jacked up on my 110 300tdi, so I assumed it was the wheel bearing, tightened them up... still movement, replaced the bearings to and low and behold I still have movement in both rear wheels....... any suggestions?

Cheers

the wheel bearings are the only parts that allow movement short of the entire hub coming lose on the axle case (wont have happend).... you should in theory be able to tighten so much you eventually lock it all up, tighten them another flat

did you do inner and outer bearings???

are the stub axles badly worn? (unlikely unless they've been badly neglected)

cheers steve

If the bearings are adjusted correctly must be worn stub axle but as said above must of been suffering for a while

I once had a replacement stub axle where the thread had not been cut along it enough. It would tighten right up, but I still had play. Caused some head scratching.

Yeah done both inner and outter bearings, tightened them up and seems to have done the job.... Im in the learning process it was my first time doing them, thanks for the help!!
