Good evening all,

Driving the Disco (Safari 2.5 Tdi) this evening, I experienced A LOT of bounce at all speeds, but especially bad on the motorway above about 50mph - so much so that passengers suffered from motion sickness for the first time ever. It seemed to be emanating from the rear set of wheels - rear left, I'd say.

Later on in the journey, we also began to hear an intermittent jangling from the same kind of area, soft at first but growing in intensity, seemingly coming when I hit a pothole or allowed the revs to speed up/slow us down.

Needless to say, this is the first time we've had either problem.

Any thoughts on what it could be? A faulty shock absorber?

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks. This is probably a question with many answers, but is there anything else common (or otherwise) that could cause bouncing/jangling? Or is it almost certainly the shocks?

a frame ball joints on land rovers do knock, but rear dampers to snap and worth checking properly

While you are checking the shock absorbers, have a good look at the rubber 'doughnut' which goes between the rear propshaft and the rear diff.

If it shows any cracks at all, replace it.
