can i use a rear stub axle from a later model land rover on my series 3? as mine need to be replaced because the land is not replaceable, and would like a more affordable/repairable option in the future if possible. cheers

Surely you mean an earlier model with he replaceable land if so yes.

All rear rover type axles are the same and interchangable from s2 to the end of s3 as far as im aware. You cant use defender bits

Do you mean the half shafts? If so they are not necessarily interchangeable. S2 shafts have 10 splines and S3 have 24 spline. Whilst you can change the drive flanges to match the problem is at the diff end. The bevelled gear fitting isn't obtainable as far as I know . Mine has a zombie diff with one side 10 and the other 24 because previous owner had to retro fit a 10 spline one side. As stated Defenders are different. The shafts n other parts are not expensive.

24 spline only from the 80's my 72 series 3 is 10 spline.
