Dear All,

Sorry, not having much luck with the search function, but any thoughts regarding the mounting of rear tyre carriers on the Disco 3/4?

I'm in the process of fitting five Compomotive PD1881s, an 18" wheel, with BF Goodrich KO2 AT tyres. This makes for a larger wheel and tyre fitment than standard, and my concern is whether the spare will still fit in the regular underfloor cradle? I believe deflating may help, but even so it seems the way ahead is to perhaps consider a rear bumper mounted spare wheel carrier. It must surely be easier to access your spare from that part of the vehicle, rather than the underfloor area. I appreciate there may be additional issues with rear mounted wheels, such as rear light blanking, parking sensor confusion and rearward visibility, to mention just a few.

The next complication comes in that I already have a Prospeed roof ladder mounted to the left side of the tail gate (see image), and its fitment is such that it encroaches on the space towards the centre of the door and glass, whilst sitting a few inches proud of the glass. Is it going to foul a rear mounted tyre / carrier?

Anyone have experience with these modifications? Any thoughts much appreciated.

I've seen the Terrafirma swing away wheel carrier. It's substantial and functional, but not particularly nice looking.

Thanks All. PD1881 Compomotives with BF Goodrich KO2s 265/62/R18 now fitted, and pleased to report the spare when fully deflated does fit into the underfloor cradle. Knew I'd bought that compressor for a reason!
