Old Engine is Coming out this week and rebuilt one back in. When i take it off the engine stand and fit a new seal do I fit the seal to the flywheel housing and fit the plastic protector to the crank and slide the seal and flywheel housing on together or do I fit the seal to the end of the crank then the flywheel after? I haven't looked at the flywheel yet but just wanted to make sure I'm ready for this as last time I swapped my engine it leaked from the rear seal and I sent it to the garage to be done

Seal into flywheel housing and insert the oiled protector into the seal then fit the housing. Protector will guide the seal and pop out at the end. Make sure the guide is smooth with no burrs.

awesome thanks a lot. Ill have to drift the seal into the back of the flywheel first then, reason I ask is for some reason I always fook up when it comes to fitting seals :)

Yes, drift the seal into the housing first. Just be very careful not to touch the seal lips and maybe use the old seal as a drift , if you have it.

Iirc seal must be fitted dry ie no oil or grease on the seal lip, which is totally alien to me but its what I did and still leak free so far.

I was Considering dropping some instant gasket stuff on the flywheel where the seal sits in and I've read dry fit to the crank. Got the engine out tonight t after work. Can't wait for my garage to be built and not having to fetch tools from the outhouse back and forth... Clutch has seen some hammer to say it's only done about 5k but most of that is off roading

My last seal wasnt very old and was the newer style and it actually came loose in the flywheel housing causing a massive leak, so new seal got glued into the housing.

I will make sure I rtv it to the flywheel case then, got to strip all the bits off my engine for the new one now as its out the truck. looks like paddocks will be seeing me again lol
