Well My D reg 90 has had new shoes on the back together with cylinder repair kits. It has failed the mot on binding rear brakes. For the last few days it was up on axle during that time the wheels were turning freely. Now went for the re-test today and failed again on the brakes.
Any ideas on what the cause is????????????????????a
 
The adjusters are free and all the way back. I also fitted new shoes. My thoghts are the cylinders, maybe when they warm up the pistons aren`t returning all the way.
 
Are yer shoes on upside down?
Did ye check for wear in the cylinder(s) and have the pistons any corrosion or wear?

Can you fit the shoes upside down?
The shoe on the adjuster side has a spring going to secured pin on the backplate and the other shoe has the 2 bolts at the bottom. On the piston corrosion, yes I think they were pitted a little. My origional thoughts are that they seem to be ok when cold on the drive.

To quote the workshop manual...

"Examine the cylinder bore and pistons for corrosion, scoring and wear: the surfaces must be smooth and bright. If not, renewal of the complete cylinder assembly is likely to be the best solution."

Ah had to replace mines fur pretty much the same thing...

Thanks a million. Just wanted to sound my ideas off on someone so I dont waste my money. Will let you know tomorrow as getting new cylinders on way home from work and fitting in the afternoon.

Maybe somebody will come along with a different answer... but ah'd rather err on the cautious side when it comes to brakes;):D
 
All sorted now. Fitted new cylinders and it passed this time. Wouldnt recommend using the cylinder repair kits, I would just go for new cylinders. Just waiting for the tax disc now then its on the open road..........Cant wait
