Just a quick update, the leak was indeed the hub oil seal failing. However it was caused by the half shaft end being so grooved that it just ripped the seal apart. So one new half shaft and a seal later and its sorted. Only cost me £80 to do the lot so not too horrible. Sorted the track rod end and a couple of other minor things out at the same time.
