if its kevlar or similar a 4 turn blood knot with the end tucked back through the back loop will hold (most fisherman will show you how it is done ;))
did 1 on jamese1505's on his 8274 warn winch to tention it we hooked it up to a 7ton dumper (handbreak on and in gear)and it dragged the thing abnout 15 feet knot tightened up nicely and did'nt give out :rolleyes:
 
Splicing is best as all knots weaken the rope by anything upto 50%. Blood Knot & Figure 8 knots are the strongest 80% of original rope strength and bowlines & overhand knots are the weakest. as much as 50% of rope strength can be lost.
