Hi All,

Looking at a winter project to re-build my V8. It's a 3.5 on SU's. I want to keep it as 3.5, and keep it carb. Not sure if to go Webber of keep the SU's, but can decide that a little closer to the time I guess.

I've searched the forum for suppliers of parts for the re-build, and found a few good ones, but wondered if any one has any more. I want to avoid kits from the likes of Rimmers and Paddocks as these are basic and may potentially contain Britpart (having read some of the posts).

I'd like to adventure aware from standard to increase power and torque (a little), so ideally get as many parts from the same supplier as possible to ensure compatibility / completeness.

I did my LR last year, my biggest friction being time, I only had 14 days to get it done.

I used JGS, Devon 4x4 and then lots of independents around me, but normally it was just who has the part closest, and I’d go and fetch it
 
I've used Brit-car, LR Direct, Rimmers, Island 4x4 & others online for various items over the years.

I did a lot of work on the top-end of my 3.5EFi last year incl replacing head gaskets (used the later Elring composites & no problems) & all the coolant hoses. Did a fair bit of shopping around on the net & managed to get mainly genuine parts. Look for items using a 'G' on the part number e.g FTC123G

I've either used genuine seals - AMD 4 wheel drive at Merrylees Desford are local to me & only keep genuine seals so for anything needed urgently I can go fetch - or Corteco & had no problems.

When placing online orders opt for the 'Do not substitute if ordered part not available'.

Avoid the cheap gasket & seal kits, 'quality alternative/aftermarket parts' & anything seal or gasket by ****part offered by all & sundry as some of the items are dire.
Used an 'alternative' gasket on the sump of an LT230 & it was so thin that the ridges on the plate acted as a cookie cutter & it promptly leaked.. Genuine one was around 3 times the thickness & is fine.

Thanks both, as with everything I do I suspect many different orders will be needed. Would be nice to order as much as poss before I start to keep the re-build to a minimum time, but I don't have a time scale to stick to.

Definitely want to stick OEM or Genuine with this as going back and changing out crappy parts is not worth the saving.
