Hi, this is my first post, and at the moment I don't have a RR, although the family used to have one years ago and it was great.
I am considering buying a P38 and spending upto 10k so Milesg vehicle is of interest, especially as I live in Evesham which is 20 mins from Cheltenham.
I currently have a Toyota Surf '91 2.4td, brought the car for a reliable work vehicle whilst renovating a house, its not very refined and certainly not fast, but very reliable, happy to be loaded with bricks, rubble etc. We also have a place in Les Arcs France and drive the Toyota there to use while we are skiing, it works great there too, always starting first time and great in deep snow.
The problem is that I cannot use it for work, I need something a little more "business like", and a RR seemed the obvious choice. I could just buy a Jag for work and keep the Toyota but that means the extra expense of insurance, tax and servicing, but after reading a few posts I am thinking that the cost of running and maintaining a 10k P38 could be far more expensive.
If the Toyota costs me a grand a year that's a lot, as Jeremy Clarkson demonstated they are the original Tonka toy.
I am just after some friendly advice, I don't do many miles and really hoped a petrol / lpg setup on a P38 would be ideal, as when we are travelling through France we are constantly getting over taken by RR's flying past us while we struggle to hit 80mph loaded.
Am I really entering a world of high bills and reliable motoring if I get the Rangie?
I really want want one but I have the horrible feeling I should keep the Surf and buy a jag, 2 reliable cars instead of one unreliable car...

you can out half the future problems by getting a diesel RR.
the diesel disco used to be the cheap mans RR. (ie it was basic/simple. thats why i love mine)
but thats all changed now cause the new discos have much the same bits as a RR, ie potential trouble spots, usually electronic.

id be fookin ****ed of if i paid 48 grand for a disco, and it let me down!
