Hi guys, just thinking again and was wonder what is the easy check for a failed or seized actuator on the side of the turbo???

Looks like i can get to mine fairly easy too in situ. I might just change it to see if it makes any difference to my rough running symptom.

Regards

I remember a screw on the wastegate but I wouldn't touch that. Give it all a good clean when you do the cat though.

Evening Grrrrrr, I have started to get more worrying noises today when i started the car up after fitting the new rear exhaust boxes and the centre silencer delete pipe so i shut her off.

No where near as much smoke as with the old system on the car but she still smoked if you revved her hard enough and the evident struggling of the revs was still evident under load.

I am now thinking Turbo has or is about to let go big style or maybe something worse in the engine such as a bottom end. Ive had enough now and will leave it alone until she goes to the garage HOPEFULLY in 2 weeks time as planned for a full and proper diagnosis of what is wrong. I'm gutted. Love the car, love the way it looks and the way it will be once i am done but for now its like looking at an insurgent through my sights. Target will fall when hit. LOL

Time for that cheeky bid yet?

Mine always smokes a bit unless it has new oil or has done a long motorway run. They don't like short journeys.

Did you post a picture of the think on the bulkhead for Wammers to see?

Bottom end doesn't usually go on these. Heads can crack. Timing chains have been known to stretch and jump a tooth. FIP has been known to leak or get worn. Lift pumps die. Rarely hear of the turbo letting go. #4 injector broken by people fiddling is common. And MAP pipe being left off is common. Glow-plug snapping off is quite common too.

Judging by the sounds it now making buddy i think its the Turbo or i am hoping it is anyway. If i can get it off then Midland Turbo's in Nottingham will carry out a full refurbishment on it for me with some Forces Veterans discount thrown in which was nice of them i think.
The garage i am supposed to be taking her to are currently closed again so looks like my booked in date of 18th November may not happen. Has anyone found an easy trouble free way of getting the turbo out on a 2.5 without having to remove the manifold??? On looking under there yesterday the damn engine mounting is in the way of its removal but if i could brace the engine upwards from top with a engine brace then maybe i could remove that engine mounting to allow easier access and removal of the Turbo perhaps???

Other than that i shall just have to wait until the garage re-opens up. Going to ring them later for an update. My P38 will deffo need trailering there now too as i aint gonna attempt to drive it now.

Never done it but from underneath with the exhaust removed might be worth a try. Have you checked what RAVE says?

I have had to buy a new turbo and it is easier and better to remove the exhaust manifold, the tricky bit is the drain pipe from the turbo undo that from underneath first gives you more play and if you have a trolley jack prop exhaust up so can undo bolts and springs. RAVE is good for removing.

Cheers guys albeit i am now going to leave it alone and let the Range Rover specialists G&D in Minety do it for me. They are collecting the car on the 18th on a truck and i will follow them there so i can discuss in detail with Greg what i have done to date so far and the full symptoms i first got when it all started to go wrong 1 week into ownership. If it were still summer outside then i would keep going but my arthritus is starting to set in again in my hands and wrists so i am admitting defeat and leaving it to the experts to resolve for me along with a few other jobs i planned to get done on her too.

Cheers to all
