Good evening all,

Ive come across a nice looking RR V8 (3.9 EFI G Reg). Im looking at it next week so would like to ask if there's any points / areas that i should concentrate on? I already own a Series 3 so not a complete novice but I've never owned a RR Classic.

Many thanks

Rich

everything in between the front and rear bumper.

They rot like fook,

especially the post 89 classics made of the 16gauge steel.

:D

My former G Reg 3.9 V8 EFI had a superb condition engine, auto gearbox, interior and panels sitting on a filigree chassis and rotting inner body shell. It was expensively repairable but I didn't have the funds at the time :( To be fair it only cost me £400 off a mate. Looked and drove great but underneath.....

This might help you decide or put you off......

Thank you for the replies, looks like i will make my mind up after a drive and a good look underneath. The areas i've been informed to look at are underneath especially where the rear seat belts are fixed and all body to chassis mounts.

Thank you

Rich

So...ive brought the RR. FSH, clean oils inc G/Box and the 50 mile drive home was fantastic :). Its had a great deal of work done and at great expense. It does have some niggles like the radio doesn't work (Original) i can't put the code in, passenger door locks but does open on the CL and there's a few small holes, 1 near the drivers footwell and a small one in the rear wheel arch which are all fixable.

Ill post some pics but paid £4100 with all its history and original picnic basket tool kit.

Looks great next to my beaten Series 3 ;)

There was a varity of RR i looked at over a 12 month period until this one came up, Solid underneath and FSH with all MOTs, registration document etc.

I wasn't keen on the P38 as it has to many issues (air suspension etc)

Lovely.

If you feel a sneeze or fart coming on then get out as gently as possible and tip toe a safe distance before letting rip. Best get a decent dustpan and brush for emergencies.

I looked up it’s mot history. Think it’s had a private plate in past as one advisory was reg spacing but nothing after that. I have the 3rd private plate on my RR - it’s in my vehicle history.

Seems like it’s been standing a lot as low battery causes srs light, it even failed on this alone one year.
It’s had underseal splodged underneath which is a no no for p38s, early ones shouldn’t need it
I would want it cheaper for that alone

Very common to have corrosion on cars that sit around, especially on grass or gravel..

I bet it is crusty as hell underneath..

Shame,,

one reason not to buy low mileage examples of certain cars.

they're built to be driven

I find this true, as long as they keep moving they don’t do too bad. Constant leaks keep metal well fed is my guess
