Hi All,

So I am moving on to sorting out some interior issues on my 1990 2 door Classic. I have a 1987 Donor Car and selecting all the best bits.

When I took the panel below the steering column off, I also took off the right hand vent - there was nothing behind it! just a vent!

On the donor car, there is a cubby box which looks like a Single Din standard size which I could put there - or I could replace the whole lower dash from the Donor Car - but.... the Donor Car does not have a vent on the leftmost side of the dash - just vents in the middle. From what I can tell the left most vent is just fed from the centre vents.

So the questions are:

1, Could I reinstate the vent on the drivers side? is there ever a vent there or did the previous owner simple fill the hole with a vent as he didn't have a cubby box.

2, Could I replace the lower dash and accept no vent on the left most side with no other implications?

Oh, and if anyone would like to sell me an owners manual I would be very grateful :)

Thanks and Happy New Year.

Difficult to answer without seeing the components, but Classics fitted with AC have four vents whereas those without (like my '87 Vouge) have only the centre two.

Happy New Year to you too.

Thanks Norseman - that intel on AC having 4 vents is great to have. I have no idea if mine has AC :) But clear now that the donor car does not have it!

I assume that the presence of the AC compressor is the only real way of knowing.

Thanks again.

There will also be a symbol on the air/heat distribution slider, but I can't remember what it looks like as it's 2 decades since I owned a RRC (3.9L) with AC.

As I bug folk on here with questions!- I think it polite to give the end answer...

So when the previous owner converted the car from LHD to RHD, he had a donor car.. with AC.... so that's what was fitted to the car, although, my one does not have AC!

So I will change the lower dash to the non AC one which is in better condition than my one (from new donor car) and the upper dash at the same time - hoping this is not too much of a project....

Click on the image of the Classics & take it from there.

FWIW mine's a 1986 non aircon RHD.
The 4 round vents on top of the dash blow hot & cold.

The 2 rectangular vents - one each side of the clock - are cold only.

To the right of the steering wheel I have the little cubby box. Removable & probably would fit a radio but my radio is below the heater controls & in front of the Hi/Lo lever.

Accurate info re. the function of the various vents.
The cubby box on the right was the original location for the radio on earlier model years.
