Whats stopping we welding leaf spring saddles to standard range rover axels and bolting them to my series 3? This will give me disk brakes all round, Has it been done before? Any recomendationd etc?
Just thought its alot less than disk brak conversion,

Why not do the job right and weld coil spring seats to the chassis, and brackets for the coiler arms and links?

In fact, if you got a Disco rolling chassis you could just shove the body on top.

It just so happens I might have one ...

or just buy a galvanised designa chassis ............. 88" coilsprung, disk brakes, dun't rust ,but series 3 body ......all the benefits of disks etc ,but with the added bonus of leaky door seals, body gaps, etc

rr axles are a bit wider:rolleyes: its a balls ache to get around drag link and trac-rod to clear the leaf springs due to the steering arm location.. you gotta change the brakes to suit the rr system on the front anall:mad:

So would you say its not worth doing? What do you have to change with the front brakes? And what do you do about the drag link?

I have a series 3 with range rover axles and disc brakes all round. does stop well!

I didn't do it, but it looks relatively simple, I'll try and get you some close up photos if you like

Why not save all the fuss and get a Defender?

Then sell the Series ...

Then turn up the heater in the Defender ...

Then laugh at the guy frezzing his butt off in the Series.

Charles.

i wouldn't bother, just fix the breaks you have.
if you start swapping axle's I'm not sure but the MOT man may say no and send you off for a SVA.
A set of well adjusted good conditions standard breaks should be able to lock up all 4 wheels at any speed you like.
How much stopping power do you want ?

hey landyboy, where are you based? pm me if you are local and you can come and see it....i'm likely to de axle it at some point anyway, I love those axles so much they will be going on my new one!

i am in worthing? How about you? yes if i could view saturday that would be great!! I may even make an offer for the axles if you removeing them.
