I am new member to this site and I would like to say hello to you all.

I have a 1997 4.6 Range Rover on LPG. I have a very minor oil leak definately coming from the front and rear of the valley gasket.
Could someone out there be kind enough to answer me a couple of questions!!!!
I have a limited knowledge of engines but consider myself OK on do it yourself fixes.

Is replacing the valley gasket a difficult job or could a novice like myself do the job so I can go without a costly bill from a garage?

I have ordered a valley gasket, do I need gasket sealer to do the job. I beleive the gasket is composite.

Can all the bolts I remove be used again and do they need tourqe wrenching down when they are put back?

Do I need specialised tools to do the job?

Thank You
Lyndon

The rubber end seals are probably shot so make sure you get a pair of these with your gasket also a tube of Hylomar gasket sealant and lock & seal liquid for refitting the manifold bolts.
You will get a workshop manual here LAND ROVER MANUALS DOWNLOAD which will give you full details.
Remember the end seals only go on one way and put a dab of RTV (Silicone) sealant in the notches where the cylinder heads meet the block and also around the curves.
TIP.
when the Inlet gasket is removed make sure nothing can drop into the block which can't be recovered.
If you need any more advice, just shout-we are all here to throw our two pennorth in!!

Forgot to add, the job should take around 4-5 hrs allowing for tea breaks.Or two weeks if your dragged down the pub.

The bolts should be torqued as overtightening can strip the threads in the aluminium, unless you have a good "Feel" and feel confident to manage without.
You will need a 6mm allen key for the top plenum chamber screws together with the usual metric sockets and combi spanners.

A tip for ya.............

Once everything is off and cleaned up, fit the seals with hylomar, then the valley gasket, put the clamps on but dont fully tighten the clamp bolts, put the manifold on and start all the bolts, THEN tighten the valley clamp bolts followed by the manifold bolts.
