Hi all I have just transplanted a 200tdi defender engine into my 1987 110 and am having some funny smoke issues. she starts and runs fine and has just passed the mot yesterday but without any warning the engine occasionally spits out loads of grey smoke (more when idling) it will do this continusly but if i turn her off for 20-30 mins all is fine again. it does not do it all the time and im a little lost. all filters and timing belt have been replaced.

I was wondering if it could be something sticking in the injector pump

she is also running near to the top of the white part of the temp guage and wondered if it was normal as its a cold time of year and i thought they normally run dead in the middle

I doubt a temp sender is causing it to smoke randomly though. But I will see if it cures the high readings.

looks like the smoke is down to a shot turbo as the injection pump diaphragm keeps collecting oil and the only place can come from is the turbo. gonna try a rebuild kit in the new year so will let u all know how it goes.

as for the temp guage its not the sender so gonna try a thermostat from the 19j engine as it opens a few degres lower.
