I’m taking my new door to be powder coated in a few days and they want the RAL code for it. All I can find are the Land Rover paint code, which I don’t think are much help, and an STC code but I don’t even know what that is. Can anyone help me out?

I’d heard that powder coating was the strongest. Googling says the same thing as well. How do you know enamel is stronger?

With coatings it's not the case of which coating is stronger, it's which type has best adhesion and, in the case of a door, best pliability as the parent material is highly flexible. With bodywork the trick is 1. thorough preparation and degrease, 2. with alloy/steel bodywork a high quality zinc rich etch type primer [UPOL do a great zinc primer that sprays on in thin coats with low solvent levels, it's good]...2-3 light coats are perfect, 3. a coat of enamel primer followed by the number of enamel paints layers of your choice [the more layers the deeper the 'look/feel'].

Powder coating comes in varying qualities and is always down to the applicating powder coater. Many powder coaters and their work simply flakes off within 12mths as often it's too rigid for the application. Where good quality powder coating does work is on thick walled and/or solid objects, it's brilliant, looks good and really lasts.

If hell bent on powder coating your door I can recommend A&C Shotblasting in Newbury. They're a proper old school material blast and powder coaters. Ask for Craig https://www.aandcshotblasting.co.uk/ + they're very familiar with LR's...they always have a chassis or two + suspension parts in there.

Thanks for the reply. I looked them up but they're a little too far away from me considering it's going to be two round trips. The actual place I'm looking at is Aurora Powder Coatings as they've got really good reviews. What would I search for to look into enamel coatings? I search for powder coaters in google maps and lots comes up but not so much searching for enamel painters. I don't really have much time to get this done as I'm moving to Africa in a couple of months and the Defender's coming with us. I'm still not sure what to do about the colour though.

Talk to Paintman, they know LR's better than most other Co's. Take their advisory and get a properly good paint company to prep/prime/and respray. I'd offer to do this for you but have no spare time til May/June time.
