Just wired my cd player into my landy. I took the wires from the cigarette lighter but for some reason when I turn the radio on it stays on for a few seconds then turns off then turns back on for a few seconds then off again etc... Should I wire it from somewhere else or have I just made a mistake in the wiring somewhere??

Your +12V live isn't high enough current rating - run a fresh wire from the battery there. Also check the earth is good.

If ye've still got the plastic cover in the middle of the dash, take it off to see a load of wires. Look for a thick white one (switched live) then a thick brown one (constant live) and then a thick black one (earth) thems all the wires ye really need apert from speakers;) :D

Bear in mind that the thick brown one comes straight off the back of the starter motor, from the battery and so is NOT fused - i.e. if it shorts you will probably have a fire.

Then ye could always stick an in-line fuse on it;)

Thats what i did originally. :) problem was i ended up with a 30 amp fuse in the dash cos i kept sticking more bits off it - took all that out, made a proper fusebox for all the extras, now that wee brown one powers the clock and the fag lighter only.

Did scare meself once though, chucked some keys into the dash, and they touched a bit of the brown wire that had worked its was outta the insulation, big flash!

Brown on the ciggy lighter? On mine it's purple, green, black and a wee red/white wire. The only thing comin' from the thicker brown wire is me radio. The thick white wire has me radio and volt meter comin' from it and the thick black one has a couple of gauges connected to it as well.
Me radio's bin in nearly a year and haven't had any probs ... yet!;) :D

My ciggy lighter was fitted by, as there wasnt one what i bought the LR. The old owners had cut apart all the wiring to fit a very old radio, which didn't work anyway. WHen i took that out i used a multimeter and wiring diagrams, and found that that was best!
