Hi folks,

Had to replace my rad due to cheap online one splitting on top where filler plug goes.

A friend sold me a 2.5 petrol rad which fits fine but now I've just installed it I've only just realised that it's got one outlet for the small hoses next to the filler plug, I'm running a 3.9efi and want to know.

Can I just blank off the small hose going to the header tank and connect the hose from the inlet manifold to the port on the rad? Or do I need to have both hoses connected? If so I'm buggered.

Thanks

You would be better off getting the correct rad imo, you may find that the 2.5 petrol one doesn’t have the cooling capacity for a 4l v8

Obviously id be better off getting a v8 rad but looking into it the 2.5 td rad is identical and cheaper so opted for one of those. Ended up getting the Y piece splitter off a 300tsi which does the same job as having the two hoses.

Just keep an eye on your temps, i added two flat plate heat exchangers to our old l200 to pre heat the veg oil, added anextra 2lts of cooling water.
took a little longer to heat up but no great difference over all.

Oh cool

Is it the same internally?

Both hoses are there for a purpose and are important, without the heating at the inlet manifold the cold engine could have running issues, and with the hose to the header tank, that is there for 1. venting the system via the valve in the header tank cap, 2. it’s the only venting method that the engine cooling systems has, plus it’s used for adjusting the hot & cold expansion of the coolant that takes place in the header tank.

I’m sure u know the capacity of the V8 rad around 11.30 litres but the rad fitted to the disco tdi is 11.50 manual, 11.70 auto. That’s according to my owners handbook.
