Do any of you chaps know where I can find a rad/fan cowl ESR1027 for a 3.5/3.9 v belt engine new or used.
I can't find one anywhere :(
Thanks in advance
Mo

As you not worried about vehicle model, for a D1 3.9 although now obsolete look for ESR2849 or the superseded two part ESR3276 + ESR2848 which is the upper removal part.
The ESR3276 has to have some of its lugs removed to to my parts catalogue.

Thanks discool but I'm really looking for ESR1027 which was for the v8 rather than the tdi, the fan seems to be more central in the v8. Decent thought though, thanks.

This is the type I'm looking for:

Ok I got carried away with the latest part numbers with cowls, but up to 1994 the D1 had this one fitted as well as the ESR1027 at sometime then LR went over to the cowl with the detachable top plus the extended part to the left where the rad fitted oil cooler is positioned.

Hmm, I'm going to need one of those. Despite suggestions I still feel a viscous on a V8 is better than electric (NOT wanting to start that old debate up again!) assuming that Mo is fitting a viscous.

Cheers Mo; I'm always worried that the fans wouldn't be on when needed, better to fail on than off.

This apparently straight-forward fitment does not always go according to plan, as I found out to my cost a couple of years ago. There are slight differences to the various cowls specified for the V8, depending on the engine's application & if buying second-hand the job can require a little jer-jer jiggling as Arkwright would say. Things like whether the rad is original or after-market can have an effect as well, mine was the latter & I ended up having to raise the rad slightly in order to get the viscous fan central in the cowl.
I think I still have a cowl & if so you would be welcome to it, but prior inspection recommended ;)
I'll have a root around over the next few days & let you know.

Borne in mind norseman, I think a certain amount jiggling will be required.
If you could look the cowl out, that would be fantastic (pun intended )

I still have the cowl, I can see it but I can't get to it at the moment as my back is playing up - sorry :(
I'll try over the BH weekend & if successful try to upload a photo with measurements.

Yes indeed :(

Fan and fan shroud don't line up with rad and a fan shroud from a V8 90 he had won't line up either. To fit the Disco 3.5 V8 it needs a NAS cowl but they are very dear and needs to change the rad to a NAS which is even dearer; looking at about £500

So will use the 16" Kenlowe from the 2.5 engine; it's large and it works and I'll just have to get over my aversion to electrical fans  and watch the temp gauge. I'll keep a look out for a suitable shroud and viscous for the future but not holding much hope.

I've have a VDO temperature gauge in degrees Celcius and now need to get an X-Fan Thermostatic Fan Switch to plumb into bottom hose to replace the Kenlowe capillary sensor which was in the top hose and the temp setting dial, replace all with a 3 way switch in the cab - auto/on/off directly to the sensor.

 I knew the conversion wouldn't be straightforward but it's beginning to drag on now (it was the ring gear bolts last week, the gear ring, flex plate and boss came without them...!)

No engine conversion ever goes as planned capo, it's their nature
Good info on the cowl though, may need to go down the bespoke route.
Mo

Not started yet capo, took it off the road last weekend to lay it up for the conversion probably in July.
I just need a few more bits from Mr. Ashcroft and I'll have everything ready.
When will you get yours back?
Mo

Hmmm, given up on ETAs!
Took it in on 16th April and thought it'd be done by end of April but missing starter ring etc, hi-lo mechanism, and welding needed to footwells delayed things. Spoke to Phil today about the fan etc and he doubts it'll done this week now most likely w/b 21st. He's off to the US for a month from tomorrow and the other guys will finish off which is a shame as I'd hoped he'd do the lot.
So it goes; mustn't get anxious :( As MrsC said, 'you're putting a '98 Discovery engine and a '92 RRC box in a '85 Ninety, of course there will be fitting problems but it'll be worth it in the end' :D
