Hi All,

Ok I ordered a new radiator for my 98 Disco v8i Auto, it was ordered from Paddocksspares.com, on arrival it is a Britpart radiator. Now on the original radiator it has male i.e external threads for the oil cool pipes to connect to, the new radiator has female i.e internal threads.

Does anyone know what addapters I need and were I can get them from.

Spoke to Paddocks and they are not sure but suggest I try Land Rover.

Paddocks were helpfull then.... they must have come across this before, perhapes you have to buy new top and bottom pipes.
Looking in my LR parts book there is no adaptors listed, not to say they don't exist on the www if the thread size is known. All the rads drawings shown in the book are male treads tdi or V8 and the pipe male at the rad end female at the engine.

Depending on VIN you should have either a ESR2634 or ESR3688 even if it's not a gen part the part no. should be a guide.
 
take your hoses off and take them along with the radiator to a hydraulic fittings shop like Pirtek, they will either make you some new hoses with the correct ends or provide you with an adaptor type union.................

If that is the case then Paddocks have supplied summat that is not fit for purpose - they should supply the adapters with the radiator or FOC. If not then I think you are within your rights to go buy adaptors and bill Paddocks for them.
 
on your old rad (if its owt like the 200tdi rad) there will be an adaptor (male / male) screwed into it, unscrew this and fit it into your new rad :D

Thanks for the replies all, the old rad does not have adaptors it has external male threads.

I am going to call britpart who supplied the rad to Paddocks and ask them about the adaptors and see if they can supply a part number.

The rad supplied is a ESR 3687, perhaps this is the problem? however Paddocks confimed that this was the correct part number for my Discovery.

I will keep the thread updated.

ESR 3687 I missed that one, sorry I didn't see the 'auto' bit but that's crorrect for VIN fromTA163100 and TA 501920

There's an 'adaptor-pipe coolant' 2 required part number ESR1262 don't know what that is, but must be something do do with the coolant side of things unless the discription is wrong.
 
the Rave says recover the connectors from the old rad... doesn't say how you do it but would suggest they unscrew by design.. but if they've been on there a while then who knows.. I'll let you know when I've had mine off...
 
The adaptors on the rad will be brazed on to the oil cooler inside the tank so the only way to recover these adaptors is to remove the tank off the rad remove the oil cooler & place in new rad. That cant be right can it ?.Or am i missing something here ?:confused:
 
when we unscrewed the adaptors from the old rad it felt like they were attached to something inside the tank, so to get them out we would have to take the tank appart.

I think if the worst come to the worst we would have to take the old rad to be re furbished and try and clean it up a bit were the tanks have gone rusty but that is £160.00, for the extra £50.00 or so it would have been nice to have a new one.

I find it frustrating how you can't just simply order a replacement rad without having to fanny around with adaptors, if they built replacement parts properly my disco would now be back on the road.

I will post the part numbers on here when I speak to britpart tommorow.

They are attached to the oil cooler inside the tank so the only way to recover it would be to take the tanks off. The tanks are brass so they wont be rusty . £160 ? whats that to do?:eek:

the £160.00 is to re core the radiator with new fins and tubes.

I believe i ordered the BTP2275 radaitor and it came with the adaptors pre installed.

I did however unscrew the adaptors from my old radiator before i took it too the tip yesterday, if you look into your rad and your sure you can use them, i'll send you the adaptors if you like?

Final Update,

Hi All,

Well my beasty is back on the road, big thanks to Matt for the adaptors, it took a while to get the smile off my face when I was giving her a test drive and then driving her home.

I also think that the new Viscus Hub has helped as well as it seems to be running the fan more often.
