Hi , I'm getting ready to pull out the gearbox and transfer box as a unit from my 300tdi Defender , using an engine crane through the passenger side . Does anyone have any advice on how to attach the sling to get the box to come back as level as possible ? Thanks in advance .

When @Tirran and I did a 200tdi clutch recently, we took the engine out.

I did read that the gearbox and transfer box will try and tip over sideways rather than fore/aft, far safer to remove the transfer box first then the gearbox.

Miktdish is correct the transfer box and gearbox will try and rotate left to right.
How do you intend to remove them, from underneath or through the door aperture. Having installed mine when the body was off top down on to the chassis, I would have thought dropping to the floor would be easier, assuming the vehicle is already on ramps/ axle stands.

As Lynall says, it’s messy either way.

I lowered it onto a trolley .
