good evening all
my 98 300 tdi gearbox has started to get very noisey. and when i dropped the oil at the weekend it looks like someone has tipped a tub of glitter in the oil . my questions are do you need any special tools to rebuild a r380 other than general pullers ? or are you better off just getting a recon box ? if so can anyone recommend a good rebuilder .
thanks very much

i recomend you send yours away to a specialist and they will do the job for you you put it straigh back in the truck and away you go, you get warranty with it that way.

or get one off ebay and hope it works

and lastley rebuild it your self it takes time effort knolage of gearboxes and a good manual for them and a supplier for the parts. it also depends on time constraints of how long you can do with out one.

as for repairs depends where you are

the choice is between an exchange recon unit, pro rebuild of yours or a used one from a scrapper, time ,cost and warrentee are the factors to worry about.
diy rebuilds usually should be rulled out ,

all sorted aw transmissions in coventry rebuilt gearbox and i can highly recommend him. thanks for your replys
