New problem. Electric front drivers seats will not move, but you can hear the motors trying to do their thing.

My problem is:

1- why cant the motors move the seat, have tried to apply gentle pressure in the direction I was hoping it would go in case it was stuck, no help.

2-the drivers seat will power up, but not move, when the ignition is off, but the passenger seat which is ok will only do this if the key is on. Any ideas appreciated.

Also the doors will not lock either by key or central locking. I suspected a problem with the central looking but why will it not lock on the key, battery has juice. Any info inc. on location of any relay etc would be a great help.

The front seat motors move the seat by use of a flexible drive cable, this cable is attached to the motor and the inner cable is then spun by the motor to either move forwards/ back or what ever, these cables like all moving parts do brake, so I would look there. The seats will only move when the ignition is on.
The central locking control unit is found under the lower steering column cover it is not reparable

Thank you, the odd thing is that the drivers seat will move or at least try to with the key off and while all the motors seem to work it does not move in any direction which seems strange.
Any further thoughts?

hehe! remember the once when the wife adjusted her seat tilt forward and pinned herself up the dash as it kept going forward even when the switch was released had to help her out and ended up putting a new feed into the switch to get the seat back, kept me amused for weeks just thinkin about it

You got a nasty little evil streak, how did you wire it to do that, no joking.

It’s unusual for the seats to be wired independent of the ignition, maybe someone has been there before. Anyway the motors are working but nothing is moving, I would remove the seat covers around the base to get access to the motors, then remove one of the flexi drive cable from the motor, see if the motor is turning, also turn the flexi cable with some pliers, you may be able to get a drill on it to turn it. I my opinion the problem has got to be with either the motor or the flexi cable, because if you have power running the motor it’s doing it’s job, but is unable to turn the flexi cable, If you continue to activate the motors and they can’t turn they will burn out.

many thanks, will try that tomorrow. Dont know who was there before me but have only had the rangie 1 week so am trying to sort out her problems.

i had to run direct from battery to the contact in the switch box to get it back up to its normalish position, seeing as we were out at the time it happened, when i got round to sorting properly it magically cured itself when i got the probe and tester out ,go figure, but i must admit i did clean all the crud and crap out of the switche boxes and contacts before i delved further
