Here is the issue - Recap, my friend bought a 2005 Freelander 1.8 with total HGF - engine totaly gone - boiled oil, sized camshafts etc. We had a spare lowmile MGF engine with cambelt failiour that we rebuild with the new bearings, valves, modified ladder e.i into the original alu block to keep engine numer. Liners were relined and sealed by local engine guru that work with K series engines in Caterham racing cars with K engines.

Engine put back and its running perfect but we can`t get radiator fan to run, assume it MIGHT be a reason for the HGF?

When we connect computer we get "wiring breakage" to radiator fan, when the message is cleared it comes back at once! We know it rarely works so we put the sensor in boiling water without reaction to fan and temp gauge only stay vertical.

We have tested to remove connectors to sensor with ignition on and correctly fan starts to work but to stop it the only way is to remove battery cabel! !!!!!!!! Is this correct??

Any clue??? a new original BMW / Rover sensor is bought, identical to the one in the car to check if that one is the failing part.

Is it a common failiour?

So, are you saying you replaced the sensor and it's doing the same thing?
