Hi guys what's your opinion on quantum platinum 5w40 vw oil in a Td5 fully synthetic...the oil spec meets acea C3 its for PD engine which has similar design as td5 but not sure about c3?

Hi guys serviced her using Mahle oil filters... After 200 miles the oil is a little dirty and the rotor filter makes a funny noise when switching off, like rubbing on something shal I change it asap?

It didn't make that noise before I changed it and on my other td5 discovery it doesn't either and I've done this servicing procedure about 20 times before at least I no it's spinning though I guess? Lol

It gets quieter as oil gets dirtier, and filter clogs, i used to change my rotary filter at every oil change instead of the (I think 30,000miles recommend) and mine made the spinning noise throughout its life

No, just sold them both,
but now have a 200tdi for off-road and a Discovery 3 for every day use

Some cheap rotor filters bind when the filter hosing is screwed shut so they never spin. I have found the central brass bearing is just a tad too long on some of the cheap filters. You can file them down or if you are posh machine or surface grind them but make sure you get all the metal filings out before fitting. On average taking 1mm off the top of the central brass bearing does the job. I have NEVER had to do tis with a genuine LR item. You should always be able to hear them spin down when the engine is switched off. No noise = no spin = no filtering. I change mine every 5k miles along with the oil filter and oil.

I've changed mine about 5 or 6 times and I have never once heard it spinning! I to change mine every 5k!
Perhaps I should get a genuine landy one?

Ok cool cheers mate! I've been using Fram filters on mine! Hope its nothing to much to worry about! ( or ill add it to the worry list ;) )

Mine is just a hum, you can hear it winding down.

I did use a bearmach one in a kit I got from JGS, this is the vid of the noise it made.

replaced back with the original and it was nice and quiet, when a new bearmach one arrived it made a nice hum noise as it slowed down.

Cheers
