Hello Folks,
I'm a plumber and I'm vaguely contemplating replacing my old (and much loved) 1.9D Citroen Berlingo van with a hard top long wheelbase Land Rover. I do only around 6000 miles a year, and the Berlingo isn't that economical, so I hope a Land Rover won't hit me too much harder in the wallet.
I did my apprenticeship in the early 1980s as a fitted and turner and vehicle mechanic with the MoD. A lot of that time was spent on Land Rovers so I have fond memories of them, and that's prompted the idea of buying one now. I don't want it as hobby at present, purely as a working vehicle.
Although I really fancy an Air Portable, it wouldn't be practical for my job as it doesn't have enough load space (and likewise the 88s or 90s), so I've started looking at the 109s and 110s (hmm, perhaps I ought to get a Messerschmitt!)
If I might therefore start with a question. Does anyone on here use a LWB Land Rover as their tradesman's transport, and if so, is my idea a good one, or are there too many pitfalls?
Security for my kit is one area I'm concerned about, but I live a little out in the sticks so the idea of the 4WD for winter and the odd flood (we do have them fairly often) appeals very much.
Thanks for any replies.
