My 110 200tdi broke down on the way home from a trip to the carpathian mountains. The front prop shaft flange sheared. I managed to remove it and am now driving on rear wheel drive. Do I replace the whole prop shaft and rear or just the bits damaged? Also I have to drive back from Ukraine to the uk with it soon and would rather fix it in the uk than by cowboys here! Any help welcome. I'm no mechanic. I just use google and a land rover maintenance book. Cheers

Whole prop at least its fixed once and for all peace of mind.
Frc5566 is the wide angled yoke one just over 60 quid.
Oh yeh and grease this one a bit more often!

Some times the grease from the middle nipple doesn't get around allthe plines, so while the prop shaft is off, sepeate the 2 pieces and grease the splines.

mark the two halves first to keep them aligned when refitting, but i wouldnt recommend pulling the two halves apart unless necesssary or new

sometimes yu have too. I have had props where the splines were full of rusty, oily water. The only way to clean it was to strip, pressure wash, wire brush (lightly) and regrease. It is also worth removing the grease nipples and make sure they arent blocked.

Hope this pic helps, look at the handbrake drum and in the centre is the propshaft, the little silver bit at 9 oclock is the u/j nipple the other little silver bit at 4 oclock on the shaft is the slider nipple.

snigger I had a dodgy google search related to this, shame we no longer have that in technical section.
