Do'er of stuff and the like
Right , time to turn fred into a racer!

First of all....

A shot of how fred seems to spend much of his freetime

Here we are trying fix freds overheating issue...

The number of bodges im finding is getting on my pips however!!!!!!

3 of the studs holding the inlet manifold on were stripped in the head so will need helicoiling and then i found the thermostat housing threads had been stripped so he had put long bolts through and a nut.. proper arse to get off!

Heres what fred shall be fitted with off our mgtf

I wont actually be able to use this for the freelander challenge as your not allowed to alter anything that affects the amount of air coming into the engine and it must remain standard. But for everyday use i might as well!

The allow inlet manifold and 52mm throttle body of the 160 trophy has been shown to give significant improvements in response. No real power benifits but thats not what its about :)

Right having just checked the thermostat it works a treat (balls!) so my other one to go for is water pump failure. Will order a water pump, cambelt and tensioner.

Whilst i am waiting i will sort out the window which is broken and then we can go from there.

I have decided that it urgently needs a replacement VCU. Put it on the grass to help me move the 110 into the yard and it almost got stuck!!!!

rear seats will be coming out and front seats replaced with fia spec seats as per msa requirements.

Aim to take part in freelander challenge series - most races are in wales. A very inexpensive (comparitively) form of motorsport.

Where to in Wales, are the challenge series events held.

How far are you going to take stripping it? Will it still be road legal, or are you making it track only?

Still has to have an mot and tax. Which i think is good!

also lots of limits as to what you can play with so it stops it being check book racing.

First one this year is on at pykes peak.

rraaarrr... bloomin thermostat housing was being held together with gasket paste basically.. completely scrap!

Think ill get the remote thermostat kit whilst i am at it as having to mess around with the inlet manifold to get to it is too much faff.

I agree with that mate! Keep us updated on how you get on, I'm quite tempted to look into it. Do you need your racing licence to compete in it?

Can't wait to see the end result!

Would it be better to put the van interior init? Along with a cage that would be awesome!

not seen a van interior...

will have a roll cage though, has to in order to comply with the regs. Will make out own as im not paying stupid money for it! The whole idea is for it to be cheap racing!

you do need a racing license yeah.

Have you looked into roll cages? When I looked into making my own it was a major pain in the arse, the type, weld type and testing was all stupid! It was for track racing, so not sure it's the same.

Im not sure to be honest, my mate knows all about it though as he makes roll cages all the time for his track cars so we will sort it out :)

Well freds being designated as a full on rally car now and not required for the mrs to take the kids to school! so the build can go ahead full swing!

well ive ordered the thermostat upgrade but only the stat itself. ill make the hoses up out of silicon. i refuse to pay 50 quid extra for a bit of rubber hose!!

this week its going to be fix little things like the passenger window mech and replace the passenger mirror. i have a low level coolant alarm to go in too.

new prt thermostat arrived this morning. I just bought the thermostat itself and will develop my own piping set up.

Its alot bigger than i thought it was going to be!
