Well I bought the Landy cheap knowing it needed a lot of TLC, this is a thread documenting the transformation from ****ter to respectable and reliable off-road Landy.

Firstup, I stumbled across a 'how to' on this forum on how to resolve the squeeking, very hand tip indeed!

With absolutely no service stamps what so ever and knowi it was a an ex farm vehicle, I knw the oil and other lubricants would need serious attention. So I purchased the cheapest filter and semi synthetic oil I coild find. Wit hthe intention of changing it again in a few weeks, thus using the cheapo oil as a cleanser. Plus I could not keep starting the engine for other jobs knowing the oil was in this kind of state

Before next oil change I will fit on of those fancy sump plugs with a hose from the Difflock shop. Great idea to minimise mess.

Fuel filter was next, big difference to the rubber seal at the top. I had a moment with rough running, but more research educated me in the self bleeding system; so panic over. I wish the rave manual had mentioned it.

I assume these rubber mountings should be attached to this bracket ?

The manual mentions a dump valve in this hoisubng, but there's nowt but a rubber fanny here :p

The exhaust was probably gone 10 years ago, i'm wondering if i'd ever get the rear section off ? Otherwise i'll replace the centre section with a new straight through pipe, maybe going the whole hog and de-catting it also.

Here are some pics of the engine bay, to which I expect to be going over with a fine toothed comb to give her a full and complete service.

It's had a long standing oil leak (at least one) I assume from the cam cover, so I gave the engine bay a jet wash last night, making sure I didn't go sillyand cause any issues.

Looking good, and a good service is always best. Get her de-cated and egr removal done and looking at the exhaust a full straight through system. It will let the engine breath and be more usable on road
 
First thing I did on my beast was a full service, despite the temptation to just go buy loads of shiny bits.
shiny bits (functional ones) now slowly going on.
 
I've been reading Buster's very helpful guides. As the manifold (or gasket) is blowing, might as well replace the entire exhaust for a decat system at the same time, as the cat is blowing too apparently. I haven't seen too many exhaust manifolds for sale for the 300TDI...hope it isn't cracked and it is just the gasket
 
down pipe is the only part that is decat the rest of system is the same either way ,it will either be manifold gasket to head or manifold to down pipe gasket
 
Look forward to seeing how this pans out. It doesnt look like that much of a lemon mate. Looks fairly clean with a few rough edges.

btw... the dump valve on the air filter is the lil rubber thing :p
 
If its cracked you can always weld it back together

Ok cool, the Peugeot ones I'm familiar with were a bugger to weld. I shall get it off when I do the gasket, and if it's cracked I shall leave it off, so it can be welded at the same time as the chassis, or I find a local guy before hand.

Looking good mate was it on a farm from new? Also can I be cheeky and ask how much u paid?

I paid £3.5k, it's a 1998 300TDI on 140k miles, 1 careful owner (careful not to get his handy dirty). It was from a livestock farm.

Glad to see the restoration has started. It'll probably be all done and MOTd before you know it!

And if the manifold is cracked it'd certainly not be a DIY job to weld.. Cast manifolds are tough o keep together whatever car they're from.

There are many body / rust issues to sort out on the Landy, this being the most obvious one, as it looks so bad. I was able to get the paint code from the original dealer, it's Caledonian Blue...sounds exotic!

Need to sort those rusty hinges at some point, but as you cant remove them it will have to wait until I get the van in the garage
 
New seats arrived today.

Can you believe how bad the old ones were...and they stink!

New seats were supplied by Sams Trim. What a great lady to do business with is Sam, and she sorted me out with a cracking deal. These seats are leather middle with Vinyl outsides. Should spruce up the interior a bit.

How much were the seats ? could do with them in my 300 TDi
