Just realised that there is no section for product reviews, good or bad. Is this a deliberate policy to prevent people pushing their own gear, or is there just no demand? It strikes me that having somewhere you can point others towards good products or deals and away from ****e might be useful.

Threads normally include all the inforamtion you need.
For example britpart. They get slated enough on here to pass judgement. Then there are others that would defend britparts use. If you need feedback ask, or ask for suggested products.

The problem with having useful recommendations kept in threads is that it relies upon a search to find them, and that has issues:
a. Unless you know what to put into the search engine you will not get the ideal result. "Any recommendations for...." is unlikely to bring up a result. If you are not sure specifically what it is you are looking for, you will probably not find it.
b. A search often brings up many, many threads, most of which are not relevant, but all of which need to be waded through to find the nugget of info you want.
c. The search engine is often fooked.

Asking for recommendations is entirely fair, but again rather than having such requests spread over the entire site, why not have a section devoted to recommendations, reviews and requests for recommendations that can be quickly scanned by someone looking for guidance?

On a current thread in the Range Rover section a member has been using a LR Indy with which he is very happy. He has been asked to name them because gold rover has recognised that having a list of recommended garages would be useful. A Recommendation and Review section would be an ideal place to preserve such opinions.
