I am posting this on the offchance it may help some one in the future plus
I just had to tell someone ,if I get boring sorry in advance.I bought a
1995 3.9 disco at the end of december as a non runner ,with help from
this forum I got it running (the I guy I bought it from tried for 4 months
with the help of 2 mobile mechanics and the AA). Anyway it would not
idle correctly sometimes it would sit there for 10 mins no problem put it
in gear and it would die,the next day it would be fine ,another day get up the road stop at a junction go to move off put your foot down and the revs stayed at 1000 car jogging forward slowly the only way to clear it was into N rev the guts out of the engine into D and off up the road like Barry Sheen , some times it would idle at 500 revs with the engine pinking
and jumping about .After searching on here I changed AFM, stepper motor, cleaned the plenum ,new plugs ,points , leads , distributor cap,
coil, all lucas, checked all the wiring, checked for air leaks still the same.I
took it to my local indy L R dealer to have the base idle checked and to
try and solve the problem ,it came back with a tick over
of 1500 revs but would still cut out just as if someone had pulled a wire
off. I have another v8 with a nackered chassis but a brilliant engine so
saturday morning I took off everthing from that car I could think of to change over after spending the day changing stepper motors, plenums ,hoses, leads, plugs and more it was the DISTRIBUTOR somebody
had fitted a new one but my engine is a serpentine model and the one fitted was for pre serp model replaced it with the one from my other car bingo after a few adjustments it ticks over at 800 revs and stays there no matter what and as a bonus drives much smoother. I feel like Billy big balls .
Sorry if I got boring.
