Hi all,

First of all thanks for any help. In advance. Much appreciated.

It's a very simple post, I simply cannot understand the pricing of these cars.

I'm after a 2.2 HSE with low mileage. I have around £8-10k to spend (obviously I'd like to spend less if possible).

Why, when I look at Auto Trader are there cars with roughly similar mileage, and wildly different prices.

Just one example;

For £14,000

Or

For £10,000

Is this just about mileage?

Doesn't seem to make sense when these 2.2 diesels will easily go into 6 figures without missing a beat.

Just a bit confused.

Also, with the 2.2, I've heard there are 3 variants, 150, 160 and 190bhp. Is the 190 the one to go for or can you achieve this with a simple remap of any option?

Again thanks in advance guys much appreciated. I'd just like to know the best 2.2 HSE to go for as it's a bit confusing for a newbie to Land Rovers like me.

👍

The lower priced one is a TD4 (160hp) with 80k on the clock.

The higher priced one is an SD4 (190hp) with 43k on the clock.

They are bound to be different prices.

My TD4 has ample poke for me.

The second hand market car sellers are seeing us coming for those whom want an FL2 HSE and other upper models, before you buy put the reg in we buy any car and see how much they would give for that car you are looking to buy, because that is where most are coming from.

You will have your eyes opened.

Tax is high and insurance is high on Land Rover models in general

190 only available on the later auto. The manual box won't take that power. Its not rated for it. Well it will but not for long.

Nothing confusing really, as you've not compare like for like.

If you're not bothered about full leather memory seats, then the SE is considerably cheaper, and has most kit the HSE has.

Another thing to take in is the fact that it will most likely need all the fluids changed, Diff, PTU, Gearbox manual or ( Auto definitely) Haldex with new filter, same with the power steering i doubt they will have been done unless the owner as asked for them to be done, even then it's trusted to the garage to follow those orders.

Any warranty is not worth the paper it is wrote on be it standard 3months or more lots out there so don't rush into it.

Definitely stay away from the one with no pictures !!

Look at several, and do insurance quotes & MOT History checks before you even visit (I usually avoid dealers that hide the number plate). Then test drive for at least 10-20 miles on local roads & either dual carriage way, or motorway. If they will not let you walk away.

Watch out for advisories that appear year after year - generally means the owner has not bothered to sort them until something breaks.

Same logic applies for any used vehicle.
