Well it's that time of year, when the nights are long and chap's thoughts turn to...

...being able to see where he's going!

My FL1 lights aren't "awful", but they're not great either. I've just taken a bulb out and it's an "Alite 120%" H4. I'm wondering whether anyone has tried any (legal!) upgrades that they could recommend, please? It seems like Osram "Nightbreakers" and Philips "X-Treme" seem to be the big names. However, I notice there are more than one sort of each. Are they all H4 filament bulbs or are some of them other technologies like HID? I'd be grateful for any recommendations.

bulbs are different according to spec, you can buy different spec Osram Night breakers according to your spec. Don't buy the wrong ones they can mess up your system.

Alite 120% are a reasonable bulb, and do provide more light than standard H4 bulb.
The Osram Night Breaker Laser (must be the Laser) are currently the best performing H4 and H7 bulbs on the market, but the improvement over the Alite +120% is small.
Be aware that all brighter bulbs last much less than standard H4 bulbs.

Thanks guys. I take it the laser is still a filament bulb, rather than LED or HID, and is E-marked, road legal & all that good stuff?

Osram Night Breaker Laser is a standard filament bulb, which is E marked for highway use.;)

LED and HID conversions aren't E marked, so technically aren't suitable for highway use, and could also fail the MOT.

Thanks Nodge, yes, that's why I was asking. Just wanted to make sure they were conventional E-marked filament bulbs!

Osram Night Breaker Laser are E marked. I've just ordered a pair for my FL2, as the lights aren't as good as the Mazda's LED lights.

Well I've fitted them now. (Must say, a real pleasure of a job compared to swapping bulbs on some more modern cars)! Yes, I'm pretty certain they're an improvement, but as you said in Post#4, not a blinding (if you'll excuse the pun!) transformation over the Alites that came out of it. Thanks for all the advice, everyone!
