hi my disco 2 has developed a groan when turning right, it does not happen when im parked up. checked the levels there ok but the fluid seems to on the brown side and not red ,any help. thanks arv.

Heh, change the fluid and re-bleed the system ... It sounds like you have many tiny air bubbles, froth, in the system ...

you shouldnt need to bleed the system it has a return pipe and so fluid and circulate if its getting bubbles its drawing air in most likely at the pump

The recommended power steering fluid for the Disco 2 is STC50519 cold climate fluid.
And to use that famous Star Trek line "It is green!"

LR now recommend Texaco cold climate fluid for the vehicles shown below. But there's no need to use Texaco.

My disco still has the ATF fluid from the day it left the factory, no issues do far.

The recommended fluid for use in the 300tdi Discovery 1 was indeed ATF M2C 33 or LATF Dexron II D, so that would have been the fluid added to the power steering system at that time.
The recommended fluid for the Discovery 2 was listed as "Texaco Cold Climate PAS fluid 14315"
The Texaco fluid is unavailable and has been for some time, however the current LR recommended replacement for it carries a Land Rover part number, STC50519. It is available from the main dealers for about £22 a litre or on ebay for about £16 if you search on the part number.
Land Rover do say that in an emergency Dexron II can be used for topping up, but there might be the risk of it attacking the seals, as I was told by LR (Stratstones, Cardiff) themselves.

i have a disco 1 have had a few leaks on the ps system but always topped up with ATF. not had any issues other than the couple of little leaks but as always with ps if it leaks i top it up until it blocks itself lol a method i have used on everything i have owned with ps..

If you re-read what I've said, ATF was and is recommended for the Disco 1.
The fluid recommended for the Disco 2 is STC50519.

My disco 1has the same issue but when turning to the left. I've bled the fluid and change it but still happening I'm now going to take off the steering dampener see if that has anything to do with it

my disco 2.... fluid changed by previous owner looks like standard red dextros II ...and most of it is on my drive !!! should i buy a couple of litres of the genuine stuff and flush and replace before it kills the steering box or am I too late??? :(

+1
Check also for leaks along the pipework between the steering box, PAS pump and reservoir, particularly those pipes which run across the vehicle under the radiator.
