There is alot of debris in the bottom of the power steering reservoir, and there is a fair amount of squealing from the front end. It's not the biggest leap of conclusion that the power steering pump is fudged or very close.

So a 93 L reg 200 tdi is the car, what are my options when it comes to power steering pump replacements?

I assume a 300 tdi item like as advertised on ebay for £60 is A) not the right item and B) made of toffee and likely to last a week.

JOY!! So its £300 for a new one or risk a beaten up breaker part :(

So a power steering pump and an impending clutch change has probably financially written the damn thing off.

Could you not try emptying the reservoir and attempting to flush the pump?
Surely that would be the first thing to do before just spending out £300.

I'm not saying it can be done but worth a try. And are you sure it's the pump and not the belts slipping as they squeal a fair amount

Its a death rattle that I can hear over the engine and the power steering is abysmal. The metal in the bottom of the res isn't causing any problem but the fact that its worn off the pump internals probably is a huge problem.
